Jelte Liebrand, CEO and founder of marine technology company Savvy Navvy, will speak at this year’s British Marine Conference showcasing how the first all-in-one navigation app is innovating the industry in the UK and across the globe.
As part of the Maximising revenue through disruption session of the inaugural British Marine National Conference, Savvy Navvy’s Jelte will be one of three speakers showing real examples of how existing marine products have been enhanced and brought to market to attract a new customer base.
Savvy Navvy, often referred to by users as ‘Google maps for boats’ has grown from strength to strength since launching almost five years ago, with more than a quarter of a million users in over 100 countries globally.
“Our vision from the outset has been for Savvy Navvy to be in every boater’s pocket, supporting both new and experienced boaters on the water. This past year we’ve innovated more than ever – expanding into markets beyond boating and incorporating more features into our navigation app, to show essential marine information with a clean and easy-to-view interface for safety and ease of use, enabling better and quicker navigation.
I very much look forward to speaking at the British Marine National Conference next week, to showcase how we are experiencing the marine industry changing and innovating and the part Savvy Navvy plays in that,” says Jelte.
Avid sailor and ex-Google Software Engineer Jelte spent three years researching and building the foundation for Savvy Navvy, after getting the idea mid-Pacific during the Clipper Round the World Yacht Race, when spending hours planning the best racing routes. He founded the navigation app company in 2017 with Kevin O’Neill wanting to bring marine technology in line with the technical advances in other industries, such as the automotive industry.
“Savvy Navvy is constantly evolving, changing and pushing new innovation based on user feedback, which drives everything we do. Understanding what the pain points are from our customers is absolutely critical and one of the reasons why we're so open, so transparent, so direct. If there's something that’s not quite working for someone, then we want to know about it, so we can address it. I think that's one of the biggest things that sets us apart from others is that we listen. We really want to hear the views from our hundreds of thousands of users and ultimately together make a better product and a better boating experience for anybody out on the water,” says Jelte.
